A ship model under test in the YTU-MARINE wave basin

Model testing and design validation for every marine platform

YTU-MARINE is the maritime research centre of Yıldız Technical University. We run physical model tests in a wave basin for ships, autonomous marine vehicles, floating structures and offshore systems — measuring manoeuvring, seakeeping and six-degree-of-freedom motion in regular and irregular seas.

Our mission is to turn full-scale marine engineering questions into measured, repeatable evidence. Every test is documented with its method, calibration and uncertainty; the results feed design development, performance analysis and validation of numerical models. We work with academia, public institutions, the defence industry, shipyards and design offices — and the basin is open to external test campaigns.

Research areas

Manoeuvring & Ship Hydrodynamics

We study how a hull actually behaves on the water, not only how it looks in a drawing. Free-running models are released in the basin to measure turning circles, zig-zag manoeuvres, course-keeping and dynamic-positioning (DP) behaviour under controlled conditions.
