Doctoral applications open for the 2027 cohort — 14 funded places

Four-year studentships across all five areas.

Doctoral applications for the 2027 cohort are open. There are fourteen funded places spread across all five research areas; how many go to each area will be decided by the profile of the applications.

The studentship covers a monthly stipend for four years, the cost of joining field campaigns, and attendance at one international conference a year. Doctoral students can use the centre's infrastructure — POYRAZ, the Marine Measurement Laboratory and the Wave Flume — for their own work.

We ask for a one-page statement of research interest. Undergraduate grades alone are not decisive: we look for a concrete question in the statement and for how that question relates to the programmes we run. Writing which data you want to work with helps more than writing a topic heading.

Assessment has two stages: a review of the statement, then an online interview. We write grounds for unsuccessful applications too.
